Thien Duy Bui, DDS, MSD

Dr. Thien Bui completed his undergraduate studies at the City College of San Francisco and the University of California, Berkeley. In 1988, he received his D.D.S. degree from the University of California, San Francisco and, two years later, earned his Certificate in Orthodontics and Master of Science in Dentistry at the University of Washington.

In addition to his private orthodontic practice, Dr. Bui is a Clinical Professor of Orthodontic Division, UCSF School of Dentistry, where he has been teaching since 1990. Dr. Bui has published articles in both the Journal of Dental Research and the Angle Orthodontist.

Dr. Bui stays abreast of the latest advances in his field and is very involved with the dental community in the following professional organizations: the California Dental Association, where he served as a Trustee in 2017-2018 and the Santa Clara County Dental Society, where he served as a President in 2010. He was the president of the Association of Vietnamese American Dentists in 2008-2010 and the Northern California Association of Vietnamese American Dentists in 1992-1996.

Dr. Bui currently is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists (FICD), the Academy of Dentistry International (FADI) and the American College of Dentists (FACD).  He is also the music and choir director for the Berryessa Alliance Church.

In his spare time, Dr. Bui enjoys playing the violin, table tennis, photography, live sound and high-tech gadgets.

Cathy Tao, DDS, MS

Dr. Cathy Tao received her undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley majoring in electrical engineering and computer science. Through her volunteer experience at the Berkeley Community Dental clinic, she found her passion in dentistry. After college, she attended University of California, San Francisco where she obtained her dental degree and further pursued specialty training in orthodontics.

In addition to private practice, Dr. Tao also serves her community through her volunteer work both locally and aboard. She participated in the Gives Kids a Smile Day in San Francisco. Starting as a dental student, Dr. Tao traveled to China with the non-profit organization, Alliance for Smiles, to help improve the quality of dental and orthodontic care for patients with cleft lip and palate. Dr. Tao is a member of American Association of Orthodontists, California Association of Orthodontists and San Mateo Dental Society.

Dr. Tao was born and raised in Taiwan; she is fluent in Mandarin. During her spare time, she enjoys cooking, travel and photography.
